SGS and Kemiex
KEMIEX joins forces with SGS to ensure safe trading of APIs, vitamins and other food and feed additives.
Zurich-based Kemiex AG, a pioneering raw material exchange platform for active and inactive ingredients in human and animal health and nutrition industries, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.
Safety, reliability and efficiency in international trade
The two companies share common values to deliver safety, reliability and efficiency in international raw material trade. SGS is recognized as a global benchmark for quality and integrity and intends to deliver customised Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) and ancillary services to support Kemiex clients directly and during the full trade life cycle. Raw materials in scope are active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), vitamins and other food and feed additives.
Kemiex aims to substantially improve the way active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), vitamins, additives and excipients are traded in health and nutrition industries for humans and animals.
First ever GDP certified online platform
As the first online platform globally, Kemiex has received a Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certificate issued by Swissmedic, the regulatory body for the pharmaceutical industries in Switzerland.
Inspired by exchanges and trade software in other industries, the introduction of a reliable counterparty network and cutting-edge trading platform marks a quantum leap for life sciences industries. Currently many market participants are facing issues to identify reliable and compliant counterparties or to conduct trade efficiently in normal but especially in difficult market situations. The platform is only accessible to buyers, traders and sellers that meet predefined quality assurance and financial criteria.
Swissmedic, a frontrunner in the revision of existing GxP regulations, imposed clear requirements to obtain a licence for broker and agency activities between wholesalers and/or manufacturers or from wholesalers to retailers. With the revision of the therapeutic products legislation as of 1 January 2019, the Therapeutic Products Act (TPA) now explicitly recognises broker and agency activities as “distribution” activities. The specific provisions governing these activities are set out in the Medicinal Products Licensing Ordinance (MPLO).
It is expected that other regulatory bodies will follow such move to ensure traditional agents and new internet platforms meet the highest quality and safety requirements in the commercial intermediation of medicinal products.
Cooperations with best-in-class service providers
Kemiex is already cooperating with Atradius, one of the world’s leading global trade credit insurers with a presence in 50 countries and access to information on more than 250 million companies. Atradius supports Kemiex in qualifying participants from a financial perspective, providing credit risk insight and insuring trade between sellers and buyers. As an industry innovation, credit insurance policies were made directly available for both clients and non-clients.
With such collaborations, Kemiex aims to provide a seamless raw material trade experience to professional raw material buyers, traders and sellers.
