With 2020 being a challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pharma industry decided to come together virtually to share its knowledge, latest developments, discoveries and cutting-edge insight.

Speakers at the CPhI Festival for Pharma event include seasoned industry experts such as Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former 23rd commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Panel discussion: China – What does the Future of API Production look like?

Over the past few years, China has emerged as one of the biggest and fastest emerging markets in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector worldwide. An ageing population, along with rapid economic growth, has created a tremendous window opportunity for the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) industry.

With the government determined to tighten regulations governing intellectual property rights, it is expected that the market for APIs in China is going to witness a significant boost in the coming years.

Despite this, the recent COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the US and Europe’s dependence on China for consistent supplies of APIs and intermediates, with concerns on supply continuity and shortages in the spotlight, can we expect to see the West consider domestic manufacturing strategies?
