The September 2026 Monthly Market Pulse is out – Additive markets gear up for 4Q but meet sudden new Middle East escalation ahead of China’s Golden Week in early October. Energy markets turned highly volatile, as crude oil, gas, fuel and chemicals prices rose strongly over a Saudi East-West pipeline shutdown removing 4-5% of crude supply, and Houthis advancing to control Suez-passing ships.

  • US 10-year Treasury yields topped 5%, a level not seen since 2007.

  • Grain and oilseeds prices rose on weather, input costs, and logistics constraints.

  • Prices for fermentation amino acids have remained stable to strong recently.

  • Global freight continues to focus on the return of Suez services, which may be stopped by the Houthis’ recent advance.

Vitamins

Vitamins broadly drifted down in the past month with the Kemiex Vitamin Index falling -1%. VB9 fell -7%, while VC rose +14% in the past month.

Most vitamins were flat. Some producers reportedly lifted list prices (eg, VE), thought not reflected in transactions and volumes yet.

Amino Acids

The Kemiex Amino Acid Index dropped -5% in the past month as softening methionine prices continue to drag on the index. Recent MoM strength in China for raw material prices (propylene +16% and methanol +47%) could limit further downside movement.

Economic Update

Renewed tensions in the Middle East have pushed the price of brent crude over 100 USD/barrel. Record energy prices have been recorded in the US, Europe and Asia as retail diesel prices surge to new record levels.

The US Fed announced a 25-basis point interest rate hike. US 10-year Treasury yields topped 5%, a level not seen since 2007. Euro area interest rates also rose by 25 basis points to 2.50%. The Chinese domestic economy continues to slowdown with fixed assets declining -7.2% YTD in large part due to the five-year property slump.

Freight rates remain elevated and further diverge with China to Americas firming on higher demand and Panama Canal restrictions whereas Europe rates are moderating and do not yet reflect renewed Houthi risks in Bab el-Mandeb.
